Bonjour! French Language Tutoring
OPEN YOUR HORIZONS AND MAKE NEW CONNECTIONS AROUND THE WORLD
Here you can find answers to the most common questions…
-Where are tutoring sessions held?
It’s flexible. It can be online (typically via Google Meet) OR at my home office in Elmhurst, Sacramento OR at a Café nearby OR at the student’s home (additional rates may apply depending on the location).
-What materials are needed?
Class notes are taken on a Google Document. This way the student has access to all notes at all times, even months after a certain tutoring session was held. Students may choose to supplement the Google Document with a notebook to take handwritten notes.
Educational materials can be internet based or workbooks can be used.
-How much does it cost (in US Dollars) ?
A 60 minute class is $55
A 90 minute class is $80
A 120 minute class is $105
There is a surcharge for additional students of $20 per hour.
-How many hours a week are needed to make good progress?
The more you do, the quicker you’ll learn.
The ideal scenario is to spend as much time studying and exposing yourself to French than you have hours of tutoring per week. So based on how much time you can invest, you can choose between these main general schedules:
“light” = 1 hour per week,
“regular”= 1.5 or 2 hours per week,
“intensive”= 2 sessions lasting 1.5 or 2 hours each per week,
“champion” at 4-5 sessions lasting1.5 or 2 hours each per week.
-Do I need a subscription?
No. You can take as many classes as you want, whenever you want and you’ll pay for however many classes you take. It’s flexible!
-What does a typical class look like?
General tutoring sessions look like below. Classes with specific goals may look different.
1)A quick catching up (in French except for for complete beginners)
2)Debrief and feedback on homework.
3)Grammar work. Light or heavy based on needs and objectives.
4)Conversation practice, whether guided, game based or free conversation.
5)We finish off with a numbers comprehension and expression drill based on real life situations (understanding prices, contact info, train numbers, times, statistics etc).
6)At the end of the session, homework is assigned and the next session scheduled.
Cultural tidbits, fun facts and tips on customs are freely included at any stage.
-What qualifications and expertise does the teacher have?
Bachelor and Masters Degree in Foreign Languages / 20 years experience tutoring / Personal Experience becoming fluent in 3 and conversational in 5 languages / DELF Certified Examiner / Professional Tutoring Certification from Preply Academy / Certification in Literacy Development through Language from Harvard University.
-Is tutoring really better than group classes?
YES! Definitely. Of course, tutoring costs more than group classes. However, it’s better and more efficient for these 5 reasons:
1)You’ll get 100% of the teacher’s attention, with individualized feedback during the entire class.
2)Tutoring sessions are customized to the students’ personal interests and learning objectives.
3)The pace of learning can be perfectly adapted (slowed down or increased) based on the student’s needs. Meaning if you require more time than what’s usual for a certain skill, a tutor can take however much time you need to work on it.
4)There are no other people around to may make you feel self-conscious or judged.
5)The scheduling of classes is extremely flexible.
